Here are questions that frequent my email box, and the answers to go with them. Please read this all the way through before emailing me with questions about my graphics. Thanks.
Q. Who created these graphics?
A. Me, Celine Chamberlin, hence the name of the site, Celine's Original Graphics (formerly Celine's Original .GIFs - I changed the name because the site has become more than just .GIFs). Yes, you will see the graphics on other sites, but that's the whole point of this site -- anyone can use these graphics on their own pages. Be assured the graphics here are all of my own creation.
That means I do not host other people's creations. From time to time, people send me graphics for hosting - please do not do so, as I don't have the disk space to host others' work.
And please note, in response to email I get from time to time -- I am not Celine Dion. I just happen to share a first name.
Q. Do I need permission to use these graphics, to visit this site, or to... ?
Um... nope, nope, and nope. Unless I haven't been making myself clear, these graphics are free and in the public domain (except for the photos). If ya like 'em, take 'em and use 'em. If ya don't, ya don't. It's up to you.
Q. How do I download these graphics?
In most browsers, you can place your mouse cursor over the graphic you want to download, right click with your mouse button, and choose 'save image as...' from the menu that appears. Or, if you use a Mac, press and hold down your mouse button over the graphic you want to save, and use the resulting dialog box to save the file. This interface will vary with the different browsers and computers used. Please check your browser's help files to find out the best way to download the graphics.
You'll then need to upload the graphics to your own web space. I can't provide specific instructions on that, since each web space provider has their own way of doing things. Check with them if you don't know how to upload.
And, yes, there are places where you can get your site hosted for free (as long as you put up with banner advertising)... try looking through FreeWebspace.Net for one you like.
WebTV/MSN TV users: see the Page Builder for information on transloading images, since you can't download graphics, plus other info you need to know to build web pages.
Q. I don't know how to download the graphics for my page. Can I just link to the graphics on your site without downloading them?
No. Since that would cause quite a drain on my server (I have a limit before my provider starts charging extra), I can't allow remote links to my graphics. Please learn how to download the graphics... besides, having your graphics load on your own Web server with the rest of your page will allow everything to load much faster.
Q. Can you make me a custom graphic for free?
While I have done this occasionally, I don't have time to fulfill all the requests I receive -- so, please don't email me with this request. Keep in mind I also do this professionally (see Specialized Web Ad Design -- my web site design business). If you want to hire me to do a set of Web graphics, a logo, or some icons for your site, by all means, let me know.
Q. Why are there advertising banners, etc., on this site?
The advertising covers the cost of hosting this and my other web sites, and partially pays for my internet connection. I don't make any extra profit from the advertising. I have greatly reduced the amount of advertising on the site since people weren't happy with it, but that means less money coming in to pay for the web site hosting.
If you would like to donate to help pay for the costs of hosting, I would be forever grateful. I want to keep this site available and free, and your assistance would be quite helpful. No amount is too small... or too big, for that matter. ;-) All donations go to pay for web site hosting. Click below to donate:
Q. How can I be notified when this site is updated?
Sign up for the free updates announcement-only mailing list.
I post to the list only when a significant update occurs to the site, so you won't be overwhelmed with email. Chances are, you'll only see a few emails per month, if that. The frequency does vary, but it likely won't be more than that. Quite often, it will be less.
Q. Do you have any .ico icons for use in Windows?
Yep, sure do. Check out the IM buddy icons and .ico icons section. It has both AOL Instant Messenger buddy icons and .ico files.
Q. What graphics programs do you use to make these graphics?
Check out the Graphics Tools page for more information on the programs and sites I use.
Q. Can I use any of these graphics in print and web newsletters, brochures, emails, etc.?
Use is not restricted, hence the whole 'public domain' thing. So, yes, you can use them in print media. The photographs section is a bit different -- they aren't in the public domain, but they are still free to use. See the photos page for details.
Q. I used some of your graphics, and want to link back to your page from mine. Do you have a button I can use on my page?
Here are a couple of graphics:
For more link buttons and banners, plus linking instructions, please see the Link to Us page. Please link it to http://www.specialweb.com/original, and thanks for the link!
Q. Why do you provide these graphics for free? Is there a catch?
I give away these graphics for one major reason: because I can. The Internet is a great medium for sharing knowledge, information, etc., and since I seem to be able to create halfway decent graphics, why not share them? And, no, there is no catch to using these graphics. There is no charge, no copyrights (except for the photos), no link requirements (although it is very much appreciated!). They are in the public domain (again, except for the photos)... willfully and knowingly, as I like to say.
Unless you want to pay me for them, of course. ;-)
