Old Site Updates:

(May 7, 2000)
In trying to get caught up on Vince news (sorry if any of this is a little old!), I came across this little blurb on the official VG site:

"Vince recorded "The Emperor's New Clothes" for a children's book series called Froggy's Country Storybook." You can order this tape from CDnow, which features Vince narrating a "country version" of the children's tale. It also has snippets of popular country songs. This information comes from the official site for the tape.

Other artists such as Bryan White and Pam Tillis narrate other children's stories for different tapes.

FYI - It's not available on CD. I haven't ordered the tape yet, but it sounds cute... I'll be getting it soon. I'd listen to Vince's voice on anything. ;-)

In other news, the offical site has photos up of Vince's wedding to Amy Grant. Aren't they a cute couple?

(May 4, 2000)
I've added info about Vince's latest CD, Let's Make Sure We Kiss Goodbye, a release I'm very fond of. Check the Discography page for details.

Also, I noticed there was an error when trying to register this site with URL-Minder... it's been fixed. URL-Minder allows you to be notified when this main page has been updated. You can sign up for it in the menu on the left side of this page.

(April 10, 2000)
Hmmm. I, uh, kinda haven't updated this site recently. And some interesting things have happened since my last update. As I'm sure you're already aware, Vince married Amy Grant on March 10 (a big congratulations go to both), and Vince will have a new CD out on April 18, called Let's Make Sure We Kiss Goodbye.

Vince is also up for three TNN Music Awards... Male Artist of the Year and Collaborative Event of the Year times two, for both "There's No Place That Far" with Sara Evans and "My Kind of Woman/My Kind of Man" with Patty Loveless.

And, finally, as you may have noticed, the message board on this site is rather active. Please note, I do not moderate or in any way censor this message board. I neither have the time nor the desire to do so, so please read and post to the board "at your own risk," as they say. But, as always, please keep it a friendly place, where viewpoints, etc., can be freely exchanged. Thanks.

First, let me apologize for my lack of updates on this site. I'll try to not let it happen again.

Second, there was a short article in my local newspaper (the Statesman Journal in Salem, OR) today... Amy Grant confirms that she and Vince are dating. She also said it had nothing to do with her divorce from Gary Chapman, and her close friendship with Vince was so public because it never occured to her to hide it. So, there you have it... good for them, I say. Now, back to your regularly scheduled Vince Gill site.

For current updates, please see the Vinny Fans main page.

(June 14, 1999)
Vince will be on the TNN/Music City News Awards tonight... this is the blurb about it from the official VG site:

Performing "Kindly Keep It Country" at the TNN/Music City News Awards show. Vince in nominated for Male Artist of the Year and Vocal Collaboration of the Year with Sara Evans for her single "No Place That Far."

It also mentions an up coming TV performance on July 7 on The Tonight Show -- Vince and Patty Loveless will perform. Check the official site's News page for other interesting tidbits.

(June 2, 1999)
Country.com is having a Vince Gill Red, White, & Blue Backstage BBQ Sweepstakes, in which you can win a July 4th weekend with Vince at Lake Tahoe. Deadline to enter is June 16, 1999, and you can enter once a day.

By the way, I just realized this site has been up a year today! Which reminds me... we won another award, which I will be putting up soon.

Photo of book cover

Want to read about Vince? There was a bio about him released last month called For The Music: The Vince Gill Story. The book was written by Jo Sgammato, who has also written bios of famous country singers. The book is under $5.00. If you're interested, read about the book at Amazon.com.

I've finally added a Vinny Fans Postcard Center! Please, try it out, send a virtual postcard to a friend or two, and please let me know if you encounter any problems. There is other software I can try if this one doesn't work out.

(May 5, 1999)
Tonight are the 1999 ACM Awards at 8PM ET & PT on CBS. Vince is up for the following awards:

  • Vocal Events of the Year - "No Place That Far" w/ Sara Evans
  • Top Male Vocalist
Good luck, Vince!

(May 2, 1999)
Vince is on the cover of the latest Country Weekly, dated May 11, 1999. It's a nice article about all the musicians he's worked with (over 400 is his estimate), and how sought after he is for other artists' recordings. There are several photos of Vince and various other artists such as Patty Loveless, George Jones, etc.

By the way, yes, I'm still going to put up the Vince postcard page... look for it sometime this week. I apologize for the delay -- when my hard drive crashed, I lost the files I was going to use for that. I've found new ones, so I will get the page up shortly.

(April 7, 1999)
I lost all of my email the other day, so if you've emailed me and I haven't responded, I apologize... please resend your message, if you would be so kind.

(March 3, 1999)
Something cute from CountryNow.com:

During Saturday's Grand Ole Opry, Vince Gill played "How Great Thou Art" on the Dobro in honor of 87-year-old Bashful Brother Oswald, who was hospitalized Friday after a fall. "I may be the worst Dobro player in the world," said Vince, "but I thought it would be appropriate."

(February 25, 1999)
Vince has apparently recorded a duet with Barbra Streisand! The song was written by Richard Marx, and was recorded on Monday. Get more info from The Tennessean.

In the Grammy department, he won for the following:

  • Best Male Country Vocal Performance: If You Ever Have Forever In Mind
  • Best Country Instrumental Performance: A Soldier's Joy (w/ Randy Scruggs)
Congrats, Vince!

(February 24, 1999)
Don't forget to watch the Grammy's tonight! Vince will perform "If You Ever Have Forever In Mind" with a full orchestra, so you won't want to miss it.

(January 30, 1999)
The A&E Live By Request show will be on tonight!!! It will be shown twice (check your local listings), and then will be repeated on Feb. 14, 1999.

I did some updating to the discography, and added a VG awards page, which lists some of the many awards Vince has won through the years.
